Zikula is a Content Management System. It is a web based application that allows you to design a database based web site. This means that you can use a normal internet browser to change your web site.

The basis of Zikula is the Module - this is similar to an normal application on your computer. You can install a module that acts as a forum so users can talk, a picture gallery, a guest book - what ever you need.

In fact, many Zikula installations are used for commercial databases to store customer records and other information.

The module creates the actual content to be displayed. This is then pushed through the Theme Engine which determine the fonts and layout of the web site.

Finally, extra information can be added by adding Blocks. These represent small bit sized bits of information or functionality. Pretty much anything can be put into a block.
